The price was ridiculous, but the marketing drew me in. Ultimately I decided to buy the book as a birthday gift (sad face) to myself, not really expecting in any way for it to live up to the title. But I was wrong.
The book is an instant, compelling read whose ideas offer near IMMEDIATE relief over imminent-breakup-related suffering as well as a plan of action for how to deal with the rocky relationship going forward. The ideas are not intuitive, and a person in pain will be inclined to resist them. However, I found those principles in the book to be very effective when road tested.I will say that again. These ideas are counterintuitive but effective in practice. (Honestly, they worked like a holy-shit-miracle charm.)The book takes the rejected lover/spouse from the depths of pain and desperation to a call for action to interrupt and correct the behaviors that led to the decision to divorce, providing a breakthrough strategy for moving forward.
The ingenuity of this book lies in the fact that the path for moving on from a relationship is exactly the same as mending it. In the end, the reader who has successfully executed on McDonald's ideas and coaching will be left with a choice - now that I.CAN. stop my divorce, do I want that?As for my divorce, I recall the moment when I was walking through the park with my soon-to-be-ex, proceeding happily along the lines of an agreeable divorce. We had already peacefully divided our possessions and worked out a housing situation, and we were taking a stroll and patting ourselves on the back for how adult we were being about the situation. The conversation devolved into reminiscing about our favorite moments together as a couple and what we'll miss about each other's friends and families. And then it turned into professions of love and gratitude for each other and our experiences together. 'Do you think we should try one last time?'
