The original Tonelab. Anyone else using one of these? Tips & tricks ideas?I had a ToneLab LE that I sold a few months ago; thought about an ST but really dig the tones from my AD120VTH amp, and IIRC the Tonelab Desktop has the same circuit so I got one. Paid more than the going rate though, but there weren't many listed on ebay.sure enough after I purchased mine, several show up at about 1/2 what I paid but not too far off once the auction ended. Either way, still less than many mainstream pedals.Well, I'm digging this Tonelab Desktop, easier to tweak then the LE, good tones for what I want, and a pedal board friendly size, relatively speaking - I'm using mine in the insert loop of my G-System, so it will be a big board regardless. If you are using one, it would be great to hear about your experiences.
Thanks for sharing. I've been using a Tonelab LE for a few years - mainly to overcome the crappy amps at our rehearsal studios, where it's often solid state amps.I like the versatility, and ability to set up program banks for cover tunes. I still need a boost after it, and sometimes a volume pedal. Gigging I had been running it into amps set clean and bright.
To me it sounds pretty good - not too compressed, or processed, and has a bit of life to the signal, even through the SS Amp. In my opinion mmuch more natural than the Line 6 stuff I've heard, or an older Boss unit my bandmate uses.I don't mind walking back to the amp when I need to make a change, and kind of like having it up where I can see it easier.I use the Guitar volume control to clean up, I use pickup selection for variety and the boost for solos and girth. There are some great stock cleanish tones (Nashville, Tex Trem) but I've mostly used the Amp/Cabinet settings to recreate my Real amp sounds -various cranked Fenders. But I set up a bunch of Marshall and Boogies that I am pretty happy with. It gets close, but not really close. I do find it to be a bit noisy with anything higher gain though. I generally don't mind, but our Singer / guitar player occasionally complains. More noticable (of course) when i'm running a single coil with the Boost on (BBE Boosta Grande).
It doesn't seem to like P-90's at all.The fuzz is disappointing, but the Tape delay stuff is pretty good, as is the stereo Tremolo/Leslie stuff. I really dig that into 2 amps set on oppposite sides of the space. I can even use the Auto Wah.Even though it's useful I still went out and bought another combo amp (Genz Benz Black Pearl) in search of 'tone'.
And I just ordered a Tim.So I 'm not saying it's 'the answer'. At home I don't really plug it in since I got my presets / sounds dialed in, but rather play straight into my amps.Lately I've been thinking about trying to get a good neutral tone from the tonelab, so I can run it into a 'good' amp and use the nicer Tonelab effects - occasionally a REALLY nice Marshall 2204S is available at the studio, so there's no point in any Modeling or OD/Dist when running through that!!! - but it would be nice to be able to use the chorus or Tape delays etc.I like the tones from my BF Bandmaster, some from my modded USA HRDV, and my Genz Benz Black pearl, so that's the latest idea - to use the tonelab as a preamp/ multi effect. I am afraid there will be too much tone suck though. Maybe an AB switch to bring it in and out.Are you doing anything like that?

Any luck?Sorry or the long post. TT in to a 1949 pp 6v6 mono block (sans pre amp).so the tt is the preamp, the basement noodling rig.
Sounds great and plenty quiet to loud with a old 70's FR alnico 12'. Tried it with a couple old ptp tube amps and it sounded really good.but going right into the inverter really made it come alive.cab sims and even the high gain sounds better and maintains the pick dynamics. Usually run the nashville and clean trem presets with a couple of tweaks.easy to dial in tons of stuff. Keepin it for what is.cheap and sounds pretty damn good. Blows away scxd, valtronic, gdec stuff I played in the store.
